As we
teach in our classes, the costs associated with traveling to
locations for the purpose of conducting business as a writer are
tax
deductible. In fact, the interest on a loan for a motor home,
travel
trailer, or other type of camper is deductible as a business
expense,
if the vehicle is used almost exclusively for writing research
trips.
(Alternatively, you may be able to deduct the interest on
Schedule A,
as a second home)
We have owned many such recreational vehicles, from Class
A,
Class B,
to Class C. For us, being able to recharge our laptop computer
and
digital camera with the built-in generator, and the convenience
of
having access to the comforts of home while on the road, are
some of the
reasons
we now own a motor home. We looked at many brands and sizes from
Fleetwood, Georgie Boy, Chinook, Tioga, Rialta, to
Pleasure-Way Camper Van, Roadtrek Van Camper, and Phoenix
Cruisers.
We decided that a Class C
motor home was about the best size for
our
needs. Many of those vehicles were available from
Vantastic
Vans,
Albuquerque's premier dealer in such RVs. After having a tour of
the
large selection of motor homes, we settled on a Winnebago that
was just
the right size. We needed a few changes, and the people at
Vantastic
Vans made them. They also found the best financing package we
could have wanted, and they took care of all the paperwork for us.
This was the easiest, most enjoyable major vehicle purchase
we've ever
made, and we're very happy with the results. And the people
really
made us feel confident, like we they were letting us into their
family.
It was really fun.
Thank you, Vantastic Vans. We'll be back!
